In celebration of International Women’s Day, this webinar will featured a panel of women leaders sharing strategies for navigating both career and personal responsibilities and ways to achieve a better balance. Prof. Yvonne Ai-Lian Lim (Moderator)
APWiL Co-Chair, Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) and Professor of Parasitology, Universiti Malaya

Dr. Yvonne Lim Ai Lian is currently the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) for Universiti Malaya and a senior professor at the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine. She also serves as a University Senate Member and was a past Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM) Council Member. Her research interest is in understanding the host-parasite-environment interactions of diseases among the indigenous and underserved communities in attempting to provide multi-targeted solutions. In addition, she is involved in studying the diversity of gut and skin microbiome of communities from a range of socioeconomic and ecological gradients, from traditional to industrialized societies. Her work has been funded by various national and international grants (eg. US NIHR01 grant). She has also received numerous awards and recognitions. In 2021, she was awarded the Fulbright Scholar Award 2021/2022 for an attachment at the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. She is very passionate about sharing her experiences and empowering colleagues and students.

Dr. Gabriela Baron
Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Engineering and Design, The University of Auckland

Gabriela Nuri Baron is a Design strategist, researcher and educator focused on Conservation, Sustainability and Social Innovation with 15+ years of experience. She is an Industrial Designer with a Master from Politécnico di Milano and a PhD in Environmental Engineering. Gabriela harnesses the power of purpose and co-creation for resilient innovation at the intersection between people and the natural environment. She was one of the founding members of the Design program at the University of Auckland, and the Associate Dean of Sustainability for the Creative Arts and Industries Faculty.

Dr. Iderlina Mateo-Babiano
Associate Professor in Urban Planning, Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning, The University of Melbourne

Dr Iderlina Mateo-Babiano is Associate Professor in Urban Planning and Assistant Dean, Diversity and Inclusion, Melbourne School of Design (the University of Melbourne). She is part of the award-winning Place Agency consortium (www.placeagency.org.au). She has convened the Women in Transport Leadership Knowledge Network (www.witl.info) and led several placemaking workshops leading to productive collaboration to advance positive transport- and place-based change. She has also advanced a significant body of knowledge on ‘streets as places, Active transport (walking and cycling), gender and transport, with theory and policy implications within the Australian and Asian setting. Her latest books are Placemaking Sandbox Emergent Approaches, Techniques and Practices to Create more Thriving Places (Palgrave McMillan, 2020) and Parking: An International Perspectie (Elsevier, 2020). She teaches and coordinates the undergraduate subject urban Design for People and Places as well as the master-level subjects Cities without Slums and Placemaking for the Built Environment.

Dr. Marian Mahat
Associate Professor, Learning Environments Education, The University of Melbourne

Dr Marian Mahat is a leading researcher in learning environments, driving impactful, interdisciplinary research that fosters partnerships with government agencies, education departments, schools, and industry. Focusing on the intersection of the physical and pedagogical learning environments, her work bridges research and practice, ensuring evidence-based insights translate into long-term improvements in student learning and outcomes. Her contributions are nationally and internationally recognised, earning accolades such as the Faculty of Education’s Research Excellence Awards (2019, 2024) and the Research Partnership Excellence Award (2018). Beyond her research leadership in learning environments, Marian is deeply committed to building the capacity and capability of academic staff. She is the series editor of Surviving and Thriving in Academia and the editor of Achieving Academic Promotion, Women Thriving in Academia, and Academic Resilience (Emerald). Through her leadership, she continues to support and mentor academics in navigating and excelling in their careers.

Prof. Vania Ramírez Camacho
Full Time Professor, Political Science and International Relations Department, Tecnológico de Monterrey

Vania Ramírez-Camacho is Professor in the School of Social Science and Government at Tecnologico de Monterrey and the National Director of the International Relations Program. Professor Ramírez has wide-ranging experience working in both the private and public sectors and over 20 years of academic experience. She served as director of the International Relations Undergraduate program at Mexico City Campus and as Associate Chair of the Regional Department of Political Science and International Relations.

Professor Ramírez collaborates with different non-governmental organizations and research centers dealing with gender and migration, fostering active learning and activism among students. She was a Research Fellow at Yale University during the summer 2018. Vania led the National Electoral Institute (INE) and Tec de Monterrey Chair on Gender Equality and Non-Discrimination. She was summoned as a judge to the promotion contest of Mexico´s Foreign Service Members in the Diplomatic-Consular branches. Ramírez-Camacho was the 2023 Puentes Consortium Visiting Scholar at the Center for the United States and Mexico at Rice University´s Baker Institute for Public Policy. Vania holds a M.A. degree in Latin America Politics and Government from University of Essex, United Kingdom and Bachelor degree in Political Science and Comparative Development Studies from Trent University, Canada.

She is a member of the Mexican Network of Feminist Foreign Policy, IMPULSA network, and a mentor of the 5th cohort Asian Pacific Women in Leadership Mentoring program. (APWil).  Her academic interests are Mexico´s Feminist Foreign Policy, migrant women, and women and politics.
