November 7 - November 9

APRU University Museums Research Symposium 2020

Universities and Architectural Heritage

Since 2012, the APRU University Museums Research Symposium brings participants together for the sharing of research and education initiatives concerning their universities’ cultural and scientific collections.

This year, we will reflect on the architectural heritage of universities, their deployment for the activities of the institution, the potentials of these historic structures in fostering academe research and education, and the challenges they present to their owners.

The sub-themes of the symposium are developed to encourage personnel from across the university – faculty, undergraduate and postgraduate, estate management, development office – to participate in discussion, debate and reflection which include:

  • Architectural heritage as a pedagogical resource
  • Architectural preservation on university campuses
  • Bequest of estates to universities
  • University archives as research resources

Limited numbers of partially funded travel grants are available. Applicants whose papers are selected may apply. The purpose of the travel grant is to encourage the participation of applicants pursuing Ph.D. studies/post-doctoral research and early career professionals by partially funding the travel costs for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.
