Enhancing Asia-Pacific Research Collaboration to Solve Global Challenges 

Around 30 Vice-Presidents for Research, research leaders and administrators from  APEC economies gathered on the campus of Tecnológico de Monterrey from 9 to 10 November 2016 for the 2nd APRU Vice Presidents for Research Meeting.

The two-day meeting addressed the common challenges facing APRU universities, making specific reference to Latin America. Topics discussed included:

– Global programs for research talent development
– Technology-based entrepreneurship
– International research collaborations
– Intellectual property policy
– Challenges and opportunities in the Asia-Pacific region and capabilities of APRU members
– Institutional strategic alliances
– APRU Impact Report

Keynote speakers from the US (Prof Robert Dynes, University of California System), Korea (Prof Cheol-han Kim, National Research Foundation of Korea) and Mexico (Mr Pablo Rojo, CONACYT) were invited to share their insights on research collaborations and the policies of respective governments in supporting research and international student mobility.

A panel of CEOs from Mexican enterprises also shared their views of connecting industry with academe on research collaboration and on talent development.

Participants also had avid discussions on how APRU can help to connect member universities in research collaborations and on new research areas which can best leverage members’ strengths to achieve synergy.

 

 

 

 

 

The next Vice Presidents for Research Meeting will be hosted by Nanjing University from 19 to 22 May 2017.
