We are delighted to share that Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), has joined the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). We welcome President Subra Suresh and his colleagues to the Association and look forward to a valuable and productive partnership.

Hong Kong, February 6, 2018—On a recent visit to Singapore, APRU Secretary General Christopher Tremewan explored opportunities for engagement with Nanyang Technological University, one of seven universities to join APRU last year. He was joined by APRU staff members Christina Schönleber, Director of Policy and Programs, and Jackie Wong, Marketing and Business Development Manager, to kick off the visit with a warm welcome of senior leaders from NTU. Deans, heads of departments, and international leaders all met to share in APRU’s mission and discuss opportunities for engagement with the network.

Inaugurated in 1991, NTU Singapore has been named “world’s top young university” for the fourth year straight by the QS World University Rankings, and is praised for being a global leader in research and innovative learning. Notably, NTU is also home to the Interdisciplinary Graduate School, and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine—jointly established with Imperial College London.

During his visit, Dr. Tremewan met with newly appointed President of NTU Singapore, Subra Suresh, who shared the institution’s accomplishments and its vision for the future.

NTU Singapore has a proven track-record at creating meaningful partnerships with other world-leading universities and global industry leaders. The university has launched partnerships with prominent companies such as the BMW Group, Rolls-Royce, and Delta Electronics. With its commitment to global education, NTU Singapore works with over 300 academic partners to provide international exposure and immersion opportunities for its students.

During the visit, NTU-Singapore treated visitors to a campus tour, revealing a beautiful campus frequently listed among the Top 15 most beautiful university campuses in the world. Also, a green campus, the NTU grounds boasts 57 Green Mark-certified (LEED certificate equivalent) buildings, of which 54 are certified Green Mark Platinum.

At the end of the visit, delegates were shown the Center for Excellence in Active Living for the Elderly, or simply the LILY Center,a joint-research centre run by NTU and the University of British Columbia. LILY hosts world-class research, helping to design computer technologies to help the elderly enjoy an active and independent lifestyle.

APRU would also like to welcome Professor Er Meng Hwa, Senior Advisor and International Leader and Ms. Jenny Hallen-Hedberg, Director of NTU Office of International Relations to the APRU network. The APRU team enjoyed their warm welcome to the campus and look forward to continued engagement.
