Hong Kong, June 7, 2018 — We are delighted to announce that Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) has joined the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).
We welcome POSTECH President Dr. Doh-Yeon Kim and his colleagues to our association and look forward to a valuable and productive partnership.
POSTECH joining APRU was followed by a visit by APRU Secretary General Christopher Tremewan in January 2018.
“APRU is privileged to count POSTECH among the leading research universities which comprise our members,” said Tremewan.
“We welcome the strength that POSTECH’s dedication to sciences, technology and engineering will bring to our collaboration on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century,” he added.
POSTECH was founded in 1986 as the first research-oriented university in South Korea to lead the transition of the country’s higher education from dissemination to creation of knowledge.
The university is Korea’s first bilingual campus and home to many innovative research facilities, such as the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (home to the only 3rd and 4th generation accelerators in Korea), the Max Planck/POSTECH Korea Research Initiative, and the Asia-Pacific Center for Theoretical Physics. POSTECH aims to nurture an engaging learning environment and provide life-changing international experiences which empower the entire student body and strengthens the passionate entrepreneurial spirit of emerging scientists.
POSTECH ranked 5th among the top 100 universities under 50 years old in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018, and it was judged the 12th best Asian university in the QS World University Rankings 2018.
