University Gadjah Mada
University of Malaya
University of Southern California

The winning team is University of Southern California

The third annual Virtual Global Health Case Competition 2018 asked students to focus on mental health and the ways that youth address issues of stigma and wellness. As depression and suicide rates continue to rise globally, creative solutions, from the youth’s perspective, are needed more than ever.

The World Health Organization (2014) found that suicides occur in all regions of the world and throughout the lifespan. Notably, among young people 15-29 years of age, suicide is the second leading cause of death globally.

The Virtual Global Health Case Competition 2018 is an APRU Global Health Program Hub-driven activity that welcomes participation by students of all disciplines. Each participating team consisted of 5-6 members, competes with their Asia-Pacific counterparts by producing a 10-minute English video, proposing a realistic, well-designed, and innovative solution to reducing mental health stigma among university students.
