The APRU Undergraduate Leaders’ Program 2025: “Future Global Citizenship Leaders: Addressing Pacific Rim Challenges” is designed to immerse international students in the complex political, economic, social, and cultural intricacies of the Pacific Rim, emphasizing the importance of the Latin American viewpoint. This two-week program provides a platform for understanding the specific challenges of the Pacific, such as intercultural dialogue, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

Moreover, the program fosters global citizenship by promoting a deep understanding of and respect for cultural diversity and international collaboration. Through networking activities, cultural nights, and mentorship opportunities, students will not only enhance their diplomatic skills but also establish lasting connections with peers and experts, preparing them to in influence and contribute to policy-making on the Pacific Rim stage.

This program not only prepares students to be global leaders in the Pacific Rim region but also equips them to face the global challenges of the 21st century with an informed, inclusive, and collaborative perspective.

  • Full-time undergraduate students, who have completed at least one year of studies, from all disciplines currently registered at an APRU member university.
  • Have a good command of English.
  • Each APRU member university may nominate up to five students for the program. Students should check with their home institutions or contact Universidad de Chile ([email protected]) for the nomination process.

Number of Participants:
50 undergraduate students from across APRU member universities.

Program highlights:
– Participants will explore the global and regional challenges faced by the Pacific Rim through a series of seminars and interactive activities.
– Participants will engage in workshops, UN simulation models, and excursions to international organizations.
– Cultural diversity will be celebrated and discussed, highlighting the importance of inclusion and mutual respect in global diplomacy.
– Participants will not only enhance their diplomatic skills but also establish lasting connections with peers and experts, preparing them to influence and contribute to policy-making on the Pacific Rim stage.

Brief overview of the program:

Week 1: Understanding Pacific Rim Challenges

  • Day 0: Welcome Dinner & Fireside Chat 
  • Day 1: Global Citizenship – Welcome Ceremony & Keynote Address
  • Day 2: Economics – Discussions with Diplomats and Economists
  • Day 3: Environment – Student Interviews & Field Visits
  • Day 4: Cultural Diversity – Folkloric Lunch & Cultural Presentations
  • Day 5: Indigenous Knowledge – Panel & Community Visit
  • Day 6: Human Rights & Nature – Museum Visit & Mountain Excursion

Week 2: Skills and Applications in Diplomacy

  • Day 8: UN Model Workshop (Student-Led)
  • Day 9: Excursion to CEPAL – Insight into International Organizations
  • Day 10: Leadership Seminar & Chilean Astronomy Evening
  • Day 11: Problem-Solving Challenge – Propose Solutions for Pacific Rim Issues
  • Day 12: Final Presentations & Certificate Ceremony

Certificate: 
A certificate will be issued to each participant upon successful completion of the program.

Important Note: The program will take place in Chile’s capital Santiago. Participants should booked their flights to arrive to Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (IATA: SCL)

Step 1: Nomination submission

APRU member universities promote the ULP’25 to their students and set up their own student selection process. Each university may nominate up to five students (list of selected students to be provided by each university to Universidad de Chile via email to ([email protected]) and have the nominated students submit their online application by March 14, 2025:

 

Step 2: Notification of selection

Selected students will be informed via email by March 28, 2025.

 

Step 3: Confirmation & payment

Successful students should confirm their acceptance by April 11, 2025 and settle the program fee payment by April 18, 2025. Visa applications (if needed) and air tickets should only be purchased after this step.

The cost of the program per student is USD 600 and includes:

  • Academic program costs
  • Transfers within the program
  • Meals within the program
  • Accommodation from July 20 to August 2, 2025 

 

Costs not included:

  • Airfare to and from the participant’s home country
  • Airport pick up on arrival or drop off on departure
  • Passport and visa fees (if required)
  • Medical insurance
  • Meals and expenses outside the program
  • Any other expenses not specified
